What it is

Control of third-party and client sub-accounts

Since 2025, the banks and the bar associations have joined forces to strengthen the fight against fraud and money laundering through an application designed by DPA. This collaboration has led to a system that is unique in Europe: an automated, permanent and systematic control of the transactions on lawyers’ qualified accounts, namely their third-party accounts and their client sub-accounts.

The system meets today’s need for systematic control. The banks automatically and securely transmit all transactions relating to third-party accounts. Specialised software then analyses the operations, detects atypical movements and possible anomalies, and checks whether the financial transactions comply with the legal and ethical rules. The results are sent to the competent president of the bar, who keeps final responsibility for supervision. All of this takes place within a strict legal framework, fully in line with data protection rules, and solely to prevent fraud and money laundering.

Lawyers’ clients get a stronger guarantee about the management of the funds they entrust to their counsel. Financial risks decrease thanks to faster detection of possible anomalies. The profession, often under the scrutiny of legislators, insurers and regulators, gains credibility and transparency.
